DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES

BLS (CPR for the Healthcare Provider)

The BLS for Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.  The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.  Healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel.  This course is also ideal for dentists, dental assistants and hygienists.  CEUs are available for the dental professional. Certification is valid for 2 years.

BLS ONLINE (CPR for the Healthcare Provider)

The Basic Life Support (CPR for Healthcare Provider) Online Course offers a flexible training option for busy healthcare professionals who would like to either renew their healthcare provider card or for the user whose card has recently expired. This is the only online course for health care providers through the American Heart Association. The complete course is as follows: Part 1 You are emailed a code for the Web-based, self-paced modules. Part 2: You schedule or register for one of our existing courses to complete a hands-on skills practice session and a skills test. Upon successful completion of all parts students receive their healthcare provider course completion card. REDUCE YOUR TIME IN CLASS TIME! CPR & First Aid Combined

During the CPR/First Aid Course participants will learn bandaging, how to control bleeding, medical emergency and trauma procedures, how to treat shock, burns, choking, adult CPR, and other basic emergency first aid procedures.  Participants are trained on what to do until EMS arrives, in the case of heart attack, stroke, etc.  This course covers many “lifesaving skill” aspects of First Aid, and meets OSHA requirements. 

This course is offered through the American Heart Association (AHA), American Safety and Health (ASHI) and Medic Firstaid.  Participants can choose which certification they would like.  All certifications are good for 2 years. Click here for more information.

CPR & First Aid Combined ONLINE Training

The AHA Heartsavers CPR and First Aid Online Course offers a flexible training option for busy professionals who would like to either renew their provider card or for the user who's card has recently expired. The complete course is as follows: Part 1 You are emailed a code for the Web-based, self-paced modules. Part 2: You schedule or register for one of our existing courses to complete a hands-on skills practice session and a skills evaluation. Upon successful completion of all parts students receive their CPR First/Aid provider course completion card. REDUCE YOUR TIME IN CLASS TIME! CPR/AED Only

Designed for lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace and those requiring a credential.  The course focuses on basic lifesaving skills using barrier devices.  Includes Chain of Survival for Adult/Infant/Child, Signs of Heart Attack, Cardiac Arrest, 1- rescuer CPR Adult/Infant/Child with barrier devices, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) or choking in conscious victims, Prevention of the most common injuries in infants and children. FIRST AID Only

General Principles, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies. Designed specifically for the general public and lay rescuers.  Provides basic information and practical skills for us at home or the workplace.  An excellent course for workplace safety teams, security guards, day care staff, teachers, coaches, babysitters, civic groups, church organizations, etc. AN ONLINE COURSE OPTION IS ALSO AVAILABLE. HEAT ILLNESS PREVENTION TRAINING

California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Chapter 4, section 3395 requires employers to provide training in the provisions of the written Heat Illness Prevention Plan to managers and supervisors, and employees. This 1.5 hour class includes how to develop and implement written procedures for complying with the Cal/OSHA Heat Illness Prevention Standard, Environmental and personal risk factors, Employer’s heat illness prevention plan and procedures, The need to drink water frequently throughout the day, Importance of acclimatization, Types of heat illness and the signs and symptoms, Necessity of immediately reporting to an employer any signs or symptoms, Employer’s procedures for responding to symptoms, Employer’s procedures for contacting emergency medical services, including alternative modes of transportation, Employer’s procedures for emergency communications, including emergency response procedures such as location, local medical services, and communication alternatives. Family and Friends CPR

A course for the general public-parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends, neighbors, babysitters, co-workers.  Both the Adult/Child and Infant will be covered.  This is not a credential course. Recommended for all lay rescuers, such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones – but who do not need a card.

Bloodborne Pathogens Training

The Bloodborne Pathogen Training Course is recognized by OSHA, and adheres to the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Regulation (1919.1020) which requires all employees who have an occupational exposure to blood or other infectious material, to have initial training upon hire, and annual training thereafter.  Included in this training are explanations of HIV, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and other viruses carried by blood, body fluids and other infected materials. Basic Dysrhythmia Course (Basic EKG)

This course is designed to give the student a basic overview of dysrhythmia. It also will help the participant prepare for the ACLS course.  The course focus is on basic dysrhythmia recognition, cardiovascular pharmacology and skills orientation. Content covers cardiac anatomy and the conduction system, the cardiac cycle, sinus rhythms, atrial rhythms, junctional rhythms, heart blocks, and ventricular rhythms.  The course also covers S-T segment monitoring. This course is offered through the American Heart Association (AHA).  Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

PET CPR & First Aid

This course is designed to for those who wish to learn how to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill pet as temporary assistance until competent veterinary care is available. Properly applied first aid can save your pet's life, reduce recovery time, and be the difference between temporary disability and lifelong disability. Includes first aid information, care for cats and dogs and safety for prevention of injury. The program primarily refers to dog and cats, however first aid application for most pets are similar. Babysitting Certification CABS (Child and Babysitting Safety)

The CABS program stresses the priority to keep you and the children you care for safe. Babysitting is not just “watching” the children, but being responsible for their safety and well being.  Course covers how to start your own babysitting business, age appropriate play time activities, feeding including warming bottles and cutting up bite size foods for toddlers, nap and sleep time, discipline with an emphasis on distracting crying children, time outs (and never shaking a baby), how to handle phone calls or strangers at the door, diapering, choking and basic first aid.  The basic course covers an overview of CPR.  The course with CPR card goes into more detail and more practice of CPR and student gets a CPR card with the babysitting card.
